Sorry Bonnie, I missed the red onion in the recipe section. But it does not influence the flavors and the chicken. The bottom vegetables can be replaced. I already updated this recipe and hope it turned out good for you.

Very pleased with this recipe. I was excited to try this recipe because it is made on the stove top and use oyster sauce, an all-time-favourite in my family. I did not have a claypot, so I used my trusted pan and the result was really delicious. Will definitely made it again

Am preparing this delicious sounding recipe-a little confused. The video shows a red onion being cut but I’m not seeing it in the written recipe. The video shows 1/2 red onion being chopped- is that the amount that is supposed to be used, or do you not use the red onion in your recipe?
I’ll go by your recipe as written this time, but am curious.

Sorry Elaine,

it was my fault… after watching the video again it becomes quite clear how green and red onions as well as ginger are used. I think it would be helpful to add the red onions to the ingredients list.

Great recipe Elaine,

I tried it and it has such a soothing taste. I really love it. I’m a little confused about the ginger and the green onion though. For the ginger I guess the diced part is used in step 2 and the sliced one in step 5. But how about the green onion? It’s used in both steps, too an the recipe doesn’t say how much is used in each step. Or is the green onion from the marinade used later in the dish, too?

Honestly, I haven’t made anything following Elaine’s blog that I haven’t wanted to cook again. Some I don’t cook often because my children can’t handle spicy food. This chicken dish I know I’ll make again and again because it’s easy and everyone in my family thinks it’s really good. Also because I used yellow onions, mushrooms and thinly sliced potatoes as the vegetable portion, I didn’t feel the need to cook a separate vegetable dish to go with this.

Only caveat is that I wasn’t sure if the garlic and green onions were supposed to be used in the chicken marinade or fried up with the vegetables or both. I did the later because I didn’t want them to burn when frying the wings.

Ellen,
Thanks for trying even through it looks not exciting at all. I believe it must be a trust for me. Both the chicken wings and other side ingredients are so great. Happy cooking! By the way you can cook beef, fish and lots of other ingredient with the same method. Happy cooking!

This was dinner tonight. It was exceptional. Honestly, the recipe didn’t look all that exciting to me, but thought I’d do something with chicken wings other than douse them with hot sauce. I followed the recipe fairly closely, but used a bit more ginger than called for, and used white pepper instead of black for the combined sauce. I didn’t have any green onions, and can imagine how over the top this make take this dish. In addition to onions, peppers, and garlic I also used cabbage. This recipe is a keeper. This, Elaine, for such a wonder recipe.
